Lighting Up the World

It feels, in so many ways, like the world has been turned upside down. Everywhere we look, the trends seem to promise more of what we do not want, and it is easy to look toward the world and feel a sense of overwhelming fear. For us, the Jewish people, history has taught us to be extremely aware of the shifting winds. The anxiety you might be feeling right now is real, it is valid, and it is shared by Jews across the globe.

But as we look at the gathering storm, we must Safeguard ourselves in a truth that has sustained our people through the darkest valleys: HaShem is in  control.

Our sages never promised that the Chevlei Moshiach-the birth pangs of the Moshiach- would be easy. In fact, they explicitly taught the opposite. A birth is a time of intense pressure, labor, and pain. It is a moment where things appear to be at their absolute worst right before the birth of a new life. What we are witnessing right now is not the world spinning out of control; it is the labor pains of a new era, unfolding exactly as planned.

Knowing this truth is important, but it is not enough to just sit back and watch. HaShem does not show us the storm to make us panic; He shows us the storm so we can build an ark. We cannot control the global chaos, but we have total control over our response, and our greatest weapon is the active increase of Mitzvos.

Stepping Out of the Corner

After October 7, the instinct for some was to hide. Out of understandable, deep-rooted fear, some Jews took down their mezuzahs, tucked away their Magen Davids, or removed their yarmulkes. While we must look at those reactions with immense compassion, we must also recognize that hiding is not the answer.

When we are attacked, when we are driven into a corner, the solution is never to disappear. The solution is to come out as proud Jews who are fiercely unapologetic about our heritage.

"The Rebbe taught us a beautiful truth: when the world challenges our existence, our response must be to be more Jewish, not less."

The nations of the world can only truly respect us when we have profound respect for who we are. HaShem made us exactly this way, and standing tall in that identity is the most profound message we can send to the nations. Every single Mitzvah we perform is an act of holy defiance against fear. It draws down Divine protection, alters reality, and tilts the scale of the entire world from darkness to light.

Watch: To feel the true power of this message capturing the Rebbe's unwavering conviction, which is offerring a different way of seeing the world.

Our Practical Blueprint for Security:

▫️Make Your Jewishness Visible: Do not hide your identity away. Keep the Mezuzahs proudly on your doors, wear your Magen David, and your yarmulke. If you haven’t had your mezuzahs checked recently, do it now. Let these signs of our Covenant be a protective shield over your home.

▫️Elevate Your Daily Mitzvos: Do not just do your routines out of habit. Add a new layer of kavanah. If you already say brachos, say them out loud with focus. Keep a physical pushka (tzedakah box) in your home and drop some coins every single day to actively bring light into your immediate environment.

▫️Immerse yourself in Torah: When the news cycle changes every hour, the Torah remains eternal. Commit to a fixed daily Torah study with a chavrusa. When you fill your mind with Divine Wisdom, there is simply no room left for anxiety.

▫️Double Down on Chesed: Fear makes us turn inward and isolated. The Jewish remedy to fear is to turn outward. Check on a neighbor, buy groceries for someone struggling, or offer a listening ear. Chesed shatters the darkness.

▫️Practice Vigilance: Vigilance is self-preservation, not a product of fear. Protect your family, secure your communities, and stay alert, but do it from a place of strength, responsibility, and Hishtadlus, knowing that HaShem is watching over us.

Do not let the headlines steal your peace and your joy. We are not helpless victims of history; we are the active builders of Geulah. Every extra Mitzvah you do today has an impact. Stand tall, watch over each other, increase your light, and remember exactly who is running the world.

When the world feels heavy, it is so easy to fall into the trap of fighting, wasting our energy arguing with the news, worrying about the trends, or trying to push back against the darkness. A little bit of light pushes away a lot of darkness. We don't need to battle the night; we just need to become lamplighters.

HaShem put each and every one of us in our specific place, neighborhoods, workplaces, to act as a unique example of divine light. You don't need to change the whole world all at once to make a difference. You just need to ignite your own immediate surroundings with a Mitzvah.

The Rebbe taught us a simple strategy for times like these: Don't fight the darkness. Just light up the world.

The woods may be dense, but the dawn is inevitable. Our current golus is just a corridor leading to a magnificent, golden future. The final Geulah is waiting for us at the end of the road, and every light of Torah is lighting up the world.

And Remember..We are Never Alone!
